Realizing that you need help can be scary and the process of reaching out and finding that support can be intimidating. You have taken the first step by searching for help. We understand that life can be difficult and we cannot change what has already happened. We can, however, work to better understand our reactions to life situations and develop ways to manage and resolve life’s challenges

Drug and Alcohol (ASAM Level 1) Psychoeducation Groups:

These classes are designed to help individuals develop a better understanding of why individuals may use or misuse drugs and alcohol, personal patterns of use, the use of unhealthy defense mechanisms, and to identify sources of support in the community.  Many individuals in this group have been convicted of driving under the influence (DUI/DWI) or another alcohol or drug related offense.  Other individuals appropriate for this group are those who are required to attend alcohol and/or substance use treatment through their employment, those returning home after a residential placement, or those seeking additional support after an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

These classes provide information about the

  • biological, psychological, legal and social consequences of substance use and abuse,
  • the immediate and long-term impact of alcohol/drugs on the body and its ability to manage tasks such as driving,
  • the differences between responsible and irresponsible use of substances, and
  • the signs and symptoms of addiction.

o Women’s Trauma Group:

The goal of this group is to help women become stronger and to move forward by helping them to develop skills and an understanding of how current life problems may be related to past trauma.  They do not need to share their personal experiences unless they would like to.  If they choose to share, the trauma-informed facilitators will ensure that it is done safely as to avoid upsetting them or other group participants.  The first several sessions focus on empowerment and improving self-esteem.  The rest of the sessions focus on the impact of trauma and how to regain control of your life.  Groups are goal oriented and facilitated by experienced, trauma-informed clinicians.

Following is a list of some of the topics covered during the groups:

  • boundaries,
  • self-esteem,
  • intimacy and trust,
  • understanding trauma,
  • types of abuse,
  • symptoms of abuse and trauma,
  • trauma-related behaviors, and
  • personal healing.
